"Toil"
Figures are often depicted in this collection of paintings. Here Gatto depicts a young barefoot girl in the chiaroscuro style shouldering a bundle at dusk as she goes from one task to another. There is beauty and charm to be seen in hard working figures, a feature advanced by MIllet in his Nineteeth Century canvas "The Gleaners" that had social significance. The original painting is about 18 x 24 and was modeled by the the artist's daughter circa 1970.
