"Times Square New Years Day 1978"
It was raining that first day in 1978. Gatto chose watercolors to best render the broad colors mirrored and shimmering in the street. The composition, put down in wet broad brush strokes, imparts the atmosphere of this world famous crossroad. "Grease" was the big ticket; "Yello" cabs dotted the street as they do now; the "Rockettes" kicked high at the Music Hall and still do: ticker tape is still plentiful on Wall Street and tug boats still steam under the Brooklyn Bridge - it's "The Big Apple" The original watercolor measured 21x29 inches and was painted in 1981 and is in the collection of Mr. J. Kinney.
